Leap targets youth with hip-hop ringtones

SAN DIEGO-Leap Wireless International Inc. will target young Cricket Clicks subscribers with urban-themed content from BlingTones, the operator announced Tuesday.

Cricket users can access ringtones and images from Lil’ Jon and other noted hip-hop stars with the BREW-based application. The portfolio of content is developed and marketed by Lagardere Active North America, a subsidiary of the French media company Lagardere Active.

“With approximately 60 percent of our Cricket customer base under the age of 34, we believe this application will be very popular,” said Al Moschner, executive vice president and chief marketing officer of Leap. “And with hip-hop becoming one of the largest music genres, it is important that we also provide easy and fun ways to make music available to the urban market through applications like BlingTones.”
