Perlego buys phone technologies from Action Engine

REDMOND, Wash.-Perlego Systems said it had acquired over-the-air smart-phone management technologies from mobile software developer Action Engine. The provider of hosted solutions for mobile device management said the software allows carriers and businesses to control and protect applications and data across smart phones on the network.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“The use of smart phones and similar mobile devices is clearly on the rise in the corporate world,” said Neil Strother, a senior analyst of consultant firm In-Stat. “So, too are the headaches of managing and protecting these disparate devices and the valuable data tucked inside.”

In a separate announcement, Mobile software developer Action Engine Corp. Tuesday announced plans to bring its wares to BREW-enabled handsets.

The company said it will produce BREW versions of its Mobile Application Platform, which is designed to allow users to access data services by using fewer keystrokes. The software, which can be embedded or installed over the air, is already available for devices running Windows Mobile, Symbian and Java.
