Uniden Corp. said its San Diego Research and Development Center entered into a licensing agreement to use Unwired Planet Inc.’s wireless communications software platform that includes an Internet/intranet browser, server and mark-up language. Uniden said it plans to debut its first Unwired Planet-based product next month at the Comdex trade show.

Qualcomm Inc. entered a strategic alliance and licensing agreement with Hughes Network Systems to license, design, develop, manufacture and sell Interim Standard 95 Code Division Multiple Access equipment. Qualcomm granted Hughes a royalty-bearing, worldwide license to manufacture and sell both infrastructure and subscriber equipment. In return, Hughes will pay Qualcomm an upfront, multimillion dollar fee and purchase a percentage of CDMA infrastructure equipment for resale, the company said.

Global Affinity Paging Inc. said it will market Paging Network Inc.’s paging services through Global Affinity’s partners including banks, credit unions, retailers and utility companies. The partners can market branded paging services through the account statements already being sent to their customers’ homes, PageNet said. The company said it offers its marketing affiliates customized programs that can include pager leasing, customer service, order fulfillment and billing.

Telecommunications Techniques Corp. introduced a new personal computer-based wireless data testing software package named TrueData. The software tests asynchronous wireless data by tracking bit errors over time and calculating actual data throughput, the company said. The program can test Global System for Mobile communications, PCS 1900, Time Division Multiple Access, Code Division Multiple Access and Advanced Mobile Phone Service networks. Users can isolate faults to the subscriber terminal, base station, data inter-working function or the public switched telephone network.

Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile said it will offer Intellivoice Communications’ EasyDial voice activated dialing system as a core feature of its new EZ MAX service. EZ MAX bundles popular cellular features into a single, off-the-shelf package. The EasyDial feature will be service marked as TalkDial.

MobileMedia Corp., doing business as MobileComm, announced it will begin beta tests for its ReFLEX 25 narrowband personal communications services systems in San Francisco and Dallas. The San Francisco test will begin next month using Glenayre Technologies Inc.’s equipment. The Dallas test will begin when equipment becomes available from Motorola Inc. MobileMedia said the tests will help the company evaluate each vendor and determine details of network design and buildout plans.
