Verizon offers new in-flight calling option

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless launched a new in-flight calling option for customers that allows for 10-cent per-minute calling when they sign up for the Airfone Service under the Verizon Wireless $10 monthly subscription plan. Verizon Wireless customers not wanting to sign up for the monthly subscription plan can still make calls for 69 cents per minute. Standard Airfone voice calls are $4 per minute with a $4 set-up fee.

Verizon Wireless customers can also register their mobile numbers using Airfone handsets and have calls placed to their mobile numbers forwarded to Airfone handsets located near their airplane seats. Charges are billed directly to a customer’s Verizon Wireless bill.

Verizon Wireless noted that the Airfone service is currently available on more than 2,000 planes operated by United Airlines, Continental, US Airways and Delta.
