HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. and SK Telecom announced extensive planning guidelines for third-generation IMT-2000 networks including coverage design, radio resource management, handover parameter planning and other planning and optimization procedures.
Nokia said several hundred of its 3G planning and optimization experts will be trained jointly by the two companies.
“This joint activity will place SK Telecom and Nokia as leading companies for third-generation multimedia network deployment,” said J.T. Bergqvist, senior vice president of radio access systems for Nokia Networks. “We anticipate that transforming the existing know-how of SK Telecom in deployment and operating [second-generation Code Division Multiple Access] networks and Nokia’s development of third-generation technology since the early 1990s, will create unique planning capabilities for high capacity W-CDMA networks.”
