BUCHAREST, Romania-Romanian GSM operator Connex and Zapp Mobile, the country’s CDMA 450 MHz operator, announced that users of the two networks now can send each other text messages.
The new service is an extension of the text messaging services offered by the two mobile-phone operators and does not require special configuration of users’ mobile phones.
Zapp Mobile is currently the only next-generation operator in Europe that offers digital wireless services for voice and data using CDMA in the 450 MHz band.
Zapp Mobile is owned by Inquam, a company whose major shareholders are Qualcomm, a U.S. telecommunications company, and Omnia, a Middle Eastern private equity fund affiliated to the industrial group Saudi Oger.
