TOKYO-NTT East and NTT West said telephone fees from fixed-line users to mobile-phone users should be determined by fixed-line operators. In Japan, the fee has been traditionally decided by mobile operators, such as NTT DoCoMo rather than fixed-line operators.
At the hearing for the issue on 30 January, NTT East and NTT West, companies within NTT Group, which also includes NTT DoCoMo, said the fee would be lowered if the price-setting authority is transferred to fixed-line operators.
The Japanese Telecom Ministry last year decided fixed-line operators should set the fees. The study group is scheduled to compile the final report by May.
