SAN JOSE, Calif.-Synchronization company Pumatech Inc. continued its buying spree with the acquisition of wireless enterprise company Spontaneous Technology (SponTec) of Salt Lake City. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Just one day after the announcement, Pumatech released its new Enterprise Intellisync Server, Wireless Edition, which features technology from SponTec. The move marks an important step for Pumatech into the wireless arena, as SponTec’s technology extends existing corporate applications to wireless devices, including those using software from Microsoft Corp., Palm Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc. and Symbian.
“As a result of the acquisition, we believe Pumatech now has a key component and a revolutionary wireless security platform to expand our mobile synchronization offering,” said Clyde Foster, Pumatech’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “This solution will enable mobile-phone and wireless-laptop, tablet and PDA users to access corporate data and applications securely and efficiently through existing corporate network infrastructure.”
The first release of Pumatech’s wireless synchronization product will include support for synchronization of e-mail, contacts, calendar and other data between groupware applications for both Palm OS- and Pocket PC-enabled wireless devices.
Pumatech this year has purchased Starfish Software from Motorola Inc. and the assets of Loudfire Inc.
