Sprint PCS reported that an undetermined number of its wireless customers in area codes beginning with 41 and 42 were affected for about six hours Thursday by a software glitch that prevented them from making calls between mobile phones and from receiving calls from landline phones.
The affected markets included the San Francisco Bay Area where the outage began at around 3 p.m. local time and was not fixed until 9 p.m. Thursday night.
Sprint PCS added that the disruption also affected its Vision wireless data service, but no voicemail messages were lost during the outage.
