PointShot secures $1M in funding for wireless train service

OTTAWA-PointShot Wireless has secured $1 million in Series A funding from institutional investors, bringing the company’s total investments to $1.5 million.

The company currently offers wireless Internet service on passenger trains in North America and is actively in trials with Altamont Commuter Express, a commuter train service in California; VIA Rail, an intercity rail service running between Toronto, Ontario, Montreal and Quebec; and Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor, an intercity rail service, also operating in California.

PointShot plans to use the latest funding to expand its products into Europe through rail trial deployments there, expected to begin in early 2004.
