Nextel goes nationwide with Spanish-language marketing campaign

Reston, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. said it will expanded its Spanish language “Nextel. Ya.” advertising campaign nationwide with a new commercial set to premier this evening on a handful of Hispanic television networks, including Univision, Telemundo, Galavision, Azteca TV, Fox Sports En Espanol and Telefutura.

The campaign, which was created by Accentmarketing in 2004, will launch with Nextel’s sponsorship of a tribute concert “Tributo a Selena” commemorating the 10th anniversary of the recording artist’s death.

“Our Hispanic initiative has provided us with excellent results, so expanding to a national media platform was the natural progression,” said Miguel Avila, senior director of Hispanic marketing for Nextel. “The Hispanic market represents a key area of growth for Nextel, and we are committed to meeting the instant communication needs of our primary Hispanic customers, the business entrepreneur.”

Nextel also said it will continue to reinforce its Hispanic advertising message with television, radio and print advertising in 15 key local markets and has launched a national online and in-store promotion that will give away a trip for four people to any Latin American country.
