Ericsson, Intel team on PC-based wireless broadband

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson and Intel Corp. are collaborating to boost market uptake of PC-based mobile broadband and multimedia applications and services.

The companies said they will work together to integrate Ericsson’s HSPA platform for mobile broadband as well as its Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystems platform with Intel’s mobile technology for PCs. The products are aimed at both enterprise and consumer clients using mobile PCs.

Ericsson’s executive vice president, Bert Nordberg, said the mobile PC with embedded mobile broadband represents a strong revenue opportunity for mobile operators, both for access and services. Nordberg also noted that end-user convenience “is the key deliverable to create opportunity for a mobile broadband mass-market.”

Ericsson said it will showboat mobile broadband and IMS-based services on mobile PCs powered by HSPA and Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology during the ITU Telecom World 2006 trade show in Hong Kong Dec. 4-5.
