Cingular meets UMTS/HSDPA goals

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. announced it has made good on its goal to have UMTS/HSDPA mobile broadband coverage in most
of the top 100 U.S. markets by the end of the year.
Cingular said that it now offers UMTS/HSDPA coverage in more than 160 markets.
“We’re delivering on a commitment we made to our customers to enhance our core network and extend our 3G services nationally,” said Ed Reynolds, Cingular’s president of network services. “We will continue investing in and building out our 3G network so that customers across the country can experience all the benefits that wireless communications can deliver.”
According to the carrier’s Web site, its 3G coverage is most extensive in California, Florida and Texas, where it covers more than a dozen cities in each state. Cingular serves areas in 34 states with UMTS/HSDPA, including at least half a dozen cities in Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina, and single markets in states including New York, South Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Oklahoma, Connecticut and Arkansas.
