Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) has expanded its mobile payment billing options signing an agreement with BilltoMobile to allow Sprint Nextel customers to charge online purchases to their wireless bill. Implementation of the agreement is expected to be completed in the “coming months.”
The platform provides customers with access to BilltoMobile’s Direct Mobile Billing feature that allows for secure payment options that do not require registration, set up or application download. Purchases are completed using a two-step authentication process that does not require users to exponse any account information.
BilltoMobile added that its platform provides “significantly lower” carrier-inclusive processing fees for merchants and authorized resellers, though a more robust payment processing feature.
The announcement follows up on Sprint Nextel’s launch of its Mobile Wallet offering late last year that uses a platform provided by CardinalCommerce.
“On the heels of our Sprint Mobile Wallet launch, we are pleased to work with BilltoMobile to present an additional payment option that will allow Sprint subscribers to conveniently and safely complete purchases on the Web,” said Kevin McGinnis, VP of Sprint Nextel’s Product Platforms. “Our agreement with BilltoMobile represents another step forward in our efforts to provide our customers with the most innovative services and applications on the market.”
BilltoMobile also has agreements with Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility.
