Sprint Nextel Corp. (S) continues to forge a different path in mobile commerce that sets it apart from the other top carriers in the United States. Today the company announced that will be the first carrier partner for American Express Co.’s (AXP) Serve.
The somewhat fledgling digital payments platform was launched almost four months ago and Sprint plans to make the mobile wallet application available for Android users later this summer.
Sprint is also the flagship carrier at launch for Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Google Wallet.
“Sprint is pleased to join with American Express to offer this convenient tool for sending and receiving money to friends, paying bills and making purchases online,” said Kevin McGinnis, VP of product platforms at Sprint. “Our relationship with American Express is a great example of Sprint’s open enablement strategy. Sprint brings practical, easy-to-use apps and services to our customers from trusted brands like American Express.”
