ATLANTA-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. reported a deal with BIO-key International Inc. to provide an integrated wireless solution to the Massachusetts Port Authority that will connect law enforcement officers at Boston’s Logan International Airport to mission-critical information. The two companies also said they will provide a high-speed wireless solution for the state’s police.
The solution includes BIO-key’s PocketCop software operating on Hewlett-Packard iPAQ personal digital assistants using Cingular’s EDGE wireless data network. The solution reportedly provides state troopers with access to driver license information, including driver photographs, vehicle registration, stolen vehicle information, weapon registrations, wants and warrant information, as well as access to local, county, state and federal criminal databases.
The companies also said they were in the process of providing EDGE-enabled laptop computers to Massachusetts State Police for use in patrol vehicles that will feature the same PocketCop capabilities, as well as automatic vehicle location and global positioning system capabilities. There are currently 600 units deployed statewide with an additional 1,400 deployments planned.
