SAN RAMON, Calif.-Wireless voice system provider Kodiak Networks launched a number of additions to its Real-Time Exchange System, including Voice Bridges instant conferencing, Voice Notes instant voice messaging and SIMpower that allows GSM-based operators to add the carrier’s application suite via Subscriber Identity Module cards.
The company noted that the Voice Bridges and Voice Notes applications build on its previously available Instant Availability application. Voice Bridges allows users to check the status of people in their contact lists and set up a full-duplex conference call of up to 30 wireless and landline participants. If some of the contacts are not available, Voice Notes allows users to bypass the traditional voice messaging setup and send a single voice message to multiple contacts’ existing voice message boxes.
The SIMpower offering is a thin client embedded on a Sun Microsystem Java-equipped SIM card that allows carriers to provide access to Kodiak’s platform and suite of applications, excluding its push-to-talk service, without purchasing a new handset. Kodiak explained that the service would allow carriers to offer revenue-enhancing applications without the expense of seeding new handsets into the marketplace.
