SEATTLE-Let the music play, says the deal between software music company Melodeo and Warner Music Group.
Both companies came together to ink a global agreement that will allow consumers to download to their mobile phones entire tracks from WMG’s music catalog.
Select U.S. mobile carriers will begin implementing the solution next year, said both companies. Telefonica Moviles announced a deal today for the service.
Once it takes effect, subscribers will be able to shop, preview, purchase, play and store full-length music tracks from their handsets. Carriers also expect to offer service enabling customers to buy and download songs over the air to their wireless phones, said both companies.
“A couple holiday seasons ago, it was the camera,” said Bob Egan, president of Mobile Competency. “As we approach this holiday season, it is clear 2005 will ring in with music, and that surely will be a love song to subscribers and mobile operators alike.”
