Nokia, Sony Ericsson join SD Card Association

SAN FRANCISCO-Nokia Corp. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. said they have joined the SD Card Association, whose semiconductor memory products are found in devices such as cell phones, personal digital assistants, laptop computers, digital cameras, digital audio players.

The two players join companies such as Motorola Inc., Samsung Corp., palmOne, Sharp, Panasonic, Toshiba, NEC, Fujitsu and Kyocera.

The SDA said the SD standard enjoys the backing of 2,877 models in 31 product categories by 238 brands.

Since its introduction in 2000, SD cards have captured 30 percent of the worldwide revenue, according Gartner Inc., which projects a 38-pecent increase by 2008.
