Marketing group forms anti-spam committee

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—The Mobile Marketing Association formed an anti-spam committee, marking the organization’s work to keep wireless content and applications spam-free.

The committee is charged with researching the merits of a national preference and privacy database. It hopes to create a system that will allow consumers to opt in or out of various types of advertising campaigns.

Committee co-chairs include Bill Erickson, chief executive officer of M7 Networks; Gerry Chistensen, director of wireless services for VeriSign; and Neil Kuruppu, CEO of Ecessor Corp.

“The mobile channel is the fastest-growing medium for brand marketers and content providers today,” said Jim Manis, MMA’s global chair. “The industry needs this committee to help ensure the consumer’s right of non-participation.”
