SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Proxim Corp. today announced the addition of the ORiNOCO AP-700 entry-level Wi-Fi access point to its product line.
The new access point was designed with small to medium-size business users and service providers selling to such users, in mind. To that end, the solution is reportedly easy to deploy, use and maintain, and includes advanced security via a new Proxim software enhancement, also announced today by Proxim.
With the enhancement to Release 2.5, the AP-700, along with the rest of Proxim’s ORiNOCO access points, supports 802.11i with AES encryption and advanced rogue AP and client detection. The company’s AP-700 and AP-4000 also now include support for the draft 802.11e standard.
AP-700 access points are available now for $600, and Release 2.5 is available for all ORiNOCO access points free to existing Proxim customers on Proxim’s Web site.
Proxim also introduced the Proxim Smart Wireless Suite of planning and management tools designed to help its customers plan, deploy and manage Wi-Fi networks.
The suite’s three applications-Wavelink Mobile Manager, Wavelink Avalanche, and Ekahau Wi-Fi Site Survey and Prediction Software-are available through Proxim’s distribution partners and value-added resellers.
Wavelink Mobile Manager, developed with Proxim’s partner Wavelink, assists users in planning and deploying a Wi-Fi network, as well as managing the network’s security, health and maintenance. It retails for $1,900 for 25 access point licenses.
Wavelink Avalanche software, also developed with Wavelink, enables over-the-air network updates of Proxim access points. It retails for $1,900 for 25 mobile device licenses.
Finally, Ekahau Wi-Fi Site Survey and Prediction Software, developed with Proxim’s partner Ekahau, assists enterprise end users, resellers or systems integrators in deploying a Wi-Fi network. The solution sells for $3,200.
