TORONTO—MDSI Mobile Data Solutions eliminated 30 workers in an effort to trim operating costs by $3 million a year, the software developer announced Thursday.
The Richmond, British Columbia, company will take a $1.5 million charge to earnings in the third quarter, but expects the cost savings to pay for the charge within six months, it said.
MDSI also named Neil McDonnell as chief operating officer. A 15-year veteran in the high-tech industry, McDonnell had been the company’s senior vice president of sales and operations for the Americas and Asia since January.
