AT&T Wireless launches European summer promotion

BASKING RIDGE, N.J.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched a European calling summer promotion that provides customers signed up to its Discounted International Roaming offering calling rates of 89 cents per minute while in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Greece, site of the upcoming Summer Olympics. The promotional rate is 10 cents per minute less expensive than the traditional discounted rate and 40 cents per minute less expensive than the non-discounted price.

In addition to the reduced rates, which are effective through the end of September, AWS also said it would waive the offer’s $6 monthly service charge for the first month.

“The hassles of hotel phones, payphones and calling cards are a thing of the past,” said Dave Albright, vice president for international marketing at AWS. “We’re offering travelers to Europe a great price on phone calls, the simplicity of using their own wireless phone for those calls, and the convenience of staying reachable at their own phone number.”

AWS also announced it would waive the $4 monthly service charge for one month on its Enhanced Discounted International Dialing plan for customers who sign up for the service before Oct. 28. The plan provides discounted calling rates for calls placed from the carrier’s U.S. network to more than 220 countries and territories around the world.
