Survey examines enterprise mobile-phone procurement process

NEW YORK-More than half of U.S. employees are unhappy with their companies’ procurement policies, according to research from Accenture.

Fifty-eight percent of 150 respondents to an Accenture survey said they are dissatisfied with procurement policies. Interestingly, while 75 percent of executive-level users reported dissatisfaction, only 12 percent of policy-makers said they were dissatisfied.

The procurement process has implications for the U.S. mobile-phone market as 47 percent of respondents to the survey said their companies use procurement systems for mobile phones compared with 28 percent in the United Kingdom and 39 percent in Germany.

“The survey results reveal that policy-makers may be too focused on cost-cutting and are failing to incorporate the needs of their employees, resulting in widespread frustration and reduced productivity,” said Donavon Favre, a partner in Accenture’s supply chain management practice.

“When designing a procurement program, it is critical that companies take a holistic approach that balances the imperative to cut costs with the need to provide adequate value and support to their employees.”
