NEW YORK-Nokia Corp. has teamed with Major League Baseball to bring audio broadcasts, real-time scoring and streaming video to wireless handsets.
The service, which is available today on the Nokia 6600 and soon should be available on the Nokia 6620, features live audio broadcasts of every MLB game, daily video highlight packages, game images, league news and current standings. Packet-data-enabled GPRS or EDGE networks will deliver the Nokia Sports application.
Users of the phones are being offered a free trial of the service, which can be downloaded over the air free. After the trial, the application is available for $8 per month.
In May, Idetic Inc. and MLB Advanced Media L.P. partnered to deliver live audio broadcasts of MLB games to Sprint PCS Vision subscribers for an additional $10 per month. MLB ring tones and ball-club logos are also available through agreements announced in April between MLB and Sun Microsystems Inc. and InfoSpace Inc. respectively.
