Sprint COO of Technology Günther Ottendorfer leaving company

On Friday Sprint announced Günther Ottendorfer, chief operating officer of technology, is leaving the company after a two-year tenure “to join his family in Austria and pursue other opportunities. Günther helped drive new technology innovations and steadily improve the performance of our network. We thank him for his leadership and dedication. He will be missed and we wish him all the best in his next endeavor.”

According to Adrienne Norton of Sprint Corporate Communications, “Going forward, the network, technology, and product development organizations at Sprint will be led by Dr. John Saw, who remains as CTO reporting to CEO Marcelo Claure.”

Ottendorfer was a consummate evangelist of Sprint’s adoption of new technology to improve the quality and competitiveness of its network. He was a mainstay at industry trade shows and events, always accessible and usually rocking Sprint yellow LTE Plus Nikes.

He joined the company in August 2015. According to his executive biography, Ottendorfer was a founding member of Austrian operator max.mobile, then served as COO and CTO for T-Mobile Austria, CTO for T-Mobile Germany and group level European Technology Director for T-Mobile International. In 2011 Ottendorfer joined Optus Singtel as managing director-networks. In 2013 he began serving as Group CTIO for Telekom Austria Group.

Günther Ottendorfer was named Chief Operating Officer, Technology, at Sprint in August 2015. He is responsible for overseeing the company’s network, technology and product development organizations, including related strategy, network operations and performance, as well as partnerships with network, technology and product vendors.
