SEC to use BlackBerrys via AT&T Wireless

REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. reported that the Securities and Exchange Commission has selected the carrier to provide 800 Research In Motion Ltd. BlackBerry devices for the government agency’s Washington, D.C., headquarters and 11 regional and district offices across the country.

“The SEC has been a valued AT&T Wireless voice customer for several years, and we’re delighted that they have selected us for their wireless data needs as well,” said Kent Mathy, executive vice president of business markets group at AWS.

The devices will operate over AWS’ GSM/GPRS network, which the carrier noted it has recently enhanced through expansion and roaming agreements resulting in a doubling of its national service area.
