Cingular to upgrade Villanova's wireless network

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-Cingular Wireless has partnered with Villanova University to upgrade the school’s campuswide wireless system to handle voice, data and messaging.

Through the partnership, Villanova’s students, faculty and staff are offered special rates on calling plans, wireless phones equipped with advanced features and services, and high-speed wireless Internet access.

For the initiative, Cingular has installed two temporary cell sites on the Villanova campus and plans to add six permanent rooftop cell sites soon to enhance quality of service, in-building coverage and to increase call capacity. The enhanced system is expected to be fully deployed by fall semester 2005.

“For the past five years, Cingular Wireless has been dedicated to providing Villanova University with quality products and services, and we welcome the opportunity to continue doing so,” said James Flynn, vice president and general manager of Cingular. “We recognize that the market for wireless services among college students is thriving, and we are pleased to be leading the charge.”
