In-building market to top $1B by 2010

OYSTER BAY, N.Y.-Distributed antenna systems, which use fiber cable to distribute signals to a network of small antennas throughout a building, have helped to make the in-building wireless market a reality, according to new research from ABI Research. ABI expects the market for in-building wireless solutions based on DAS to top $1 billion annually by 2010.

“Companies deploying these solutions, known as ‘neutral host providers,’ are finding that the reduced costs, improved reliability and greater capacity of DAS technology has helped them win customers,” said Edward Rerisi of ABI. “This, coupled with more realistic revenue sharing agreements with the carriers, has brought new life to this market.”

The research group added, however, that it expects the small building segment to continue to represent a “sizable niche” for companies that provide repeater-based networks for in-building coverage.
