Jajah quietly rolls out mobile app

Mountain View based VoIP firm Jajah has quietly rolled out JAJAH Mobile for iPhone, an app which allows users to make international calls for either free or very little, without having to connect the call via online via Jajah’s website first.

In the past, users could make Jajah calls by clicking on their contacts through the firm’s website, on either their PC or their mobile, but users had long been demanding a simpler way, and hence this new app.

For Jajah users, the app automatically loads contacts not only from their Jajah account but also from their phone, allowing them to call whoever they please with a simple click to call and save. The app also allows users to initiate a call to non-contacts using a dial pad.

Jajah to Jajah user calls are still free, while Jajah to non Jajah user calls cost pennies, owing to the VoIP bridge the firm uses to connect calls. The JAJAH Mobile app uses the Internet (WiFi, 3G, GPRS) to set up calls. Once a call has been connected, however, it’s a regular call with pretty astounding quality.

The firm, which was bought last year by Telefonica, is also giving out $5 credits to the first 200 who download and login to the app.

“This is just the beginning,” says Jajah on the app’s page. “There will be much more exciting new features and improvements in the future.”
