Axalto to use Telespree software on GSM SIM cards

AUSTIN, Texas-Axalto, formerly Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, entered a strategic marketing alliance with Telespree Communications to deliver Telespree’s self-service wireless automation software on Axalto’s GSM SIM cards.

According to the agreement, Axalto will add Telespree’s Self-Service Set-Up applet to its Customer SIM Card Library. Self-Service Set-Up, which was jointly developed by Telespree and VeriSign Inc., guides consumers through an interactive process that manages wireless device activation and reactivation, customer account set-up, ongoing account maintenance, rate plan changes and promotions using only the mobile device.

“Self-service is the way to go, because people prefer doing to waiting,” said Dale Sperrazza, vice president of MobileCom at Axalto. “Like automated online support or ATMs, Self-Service Set-Up will help mobile operators lower their administration costs and increase customer satisfaction at the same time.”

Axalto and Telespree will target wireless carriers and value-added service providers in North America.

In other news, Axalto won Frost & Sullivan’s Global Market Leadership Award for its performance in the global GSM smart card market in 2002 and 2003.
