Motorola chooses Sleepycat data management software for smart phone

EMERYVILLE, Calif.-Motorola Inc. has selected Sleepycat Software’s Berkeley DB application-specific data management software for use in Motorola’s A768 smart phone in China.

The phone, developed for corporate users, offers applications such as personal digital assistant capability, MP3 music playback, full-motion video recording and speakerphone. The handset uses Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB data management engine, MontaVista Software’s Linux and Trolltech’s Qt/Embedded framework for user interface development.

Sleepycat’s Berkeley DB software provides the handset with a transaction-protected data manager for functions including the contacts database and downloaded files repository, JavaT applications, audio and video.
