LISBON, Portugal-Vodafone Portugal said it began a limited launch of its third-generation services, with access available only to a limited number of users in Lisbon and Oporto.
Mostly Vodafone staff and selected business partners and customers will initially use the new service. The operator did not provide the number of initial users.
Vodafone said it is continuing to work with handset suppliers to ensure the technical operability of UMTS phones. “The object is to ensure the necessary quality and quantities that will allow the commercial rollout of 3G technology in the near future,” the carrier said.
