OVERLAND PARK, Kan.—Forget the car charger. Sprint Nextel Corp. is the first to market with a portable charger from Energizer, the Energi To Go, which can charge a cell phone using AA batteries. RCR Wireless News first reported on the recharging device in June, with Sprint Nextel the first carrier to market the product.
The connection pack, which Sprint Nextel is offering for $25 in its stores, includes the single-barrel charger, an Energizer e2 Lithium AA battery and three connector tips: a universal CDMA connector, a mini-USB connector and a universal iDEN connector. According to Sprint Nextel, the charger will work with 80 percent of its phones on the market.
Energizer recommends its e2 Lithium battery for the charger because it is designed for use in high-tech devices. The Energi To Go relies on a “patented intelligent control chip that maximizes power transfer from the charger to the phone,” according to the two companies.
“It fits in the palm of a hand and is perfect for anyone who is mobile,” said Tony Mazzola, product technical support manager for Energizer.
