HELSINKI, Finland-Chilean mobile operator Telefonica Movil Chile announced the first launch of commercial EDGE services in Latin America in the metropolitan Santiago area and in the coastal city of Valparaiso. Nokia Corp. said it supplied the operator’s EDGE equipment.
The launch is also the first EDGE deployment in the world for the Spanish mobile operator Telefonica Moviles.
“The EDGE network built by Nokia will allow Telefonica Movil to be at the leading edge of an innovative offering of high-tech products and services that will clearly make the difference with respect to the current supply of mobile telephony in Chile,” said Patricio Valenzuela, general manager of Nokia Networks Chile.
