BEIJING-Lucent Technologies Inc. and Nokia Corp. both signed contracts with divisions of China Unicom.
Lucent said it has signed a CDMA contract worth more than $230 million to expand the networks of China Unicom.
“China Unicom also will be able to deliver a variety of value-added data services such as video-on-demand, live streaming video and high-speed mobile Internet access to its subscribers,” said the carrier.
Nokia signed a $33 million deal with the Shanghai branch of China Unicom’s GSM network. The equipment will allow the operator to increase network capacity to 3.1 million subscribers and enhance coverage and capacity across Shanghai.
