LONDON-Music companies Cognima and Beatnik announced a unique new service for wireless carriers, a service that allows wireless phone users to keep a constantly updated list of ring tones that they can preview before buying.
Using Cognima’s Replicate data replication framework and Beatnik’s Audio Engine (available in phones from Nokia Corp., Motorola Inc. and others), carriers can wirelessly push and then update a list of available ring tones to a user’s phone. Users can then sample the tunes before buying.
“We’re extending our industry partnerships to bring the benefits of simple, secure replication technology to millions of phone users,” said Simon East, Cognima’s chief executive officer. “Our work with Beatnik shows how Cognima makes the delivery of premium services such as ring tones as simple as possible, making it easier for users to select and pay for exciting content. Network operators can at last offer one-to-one marketing of premium content to customers, generating additional value from their customer base.”
