TOKYO-The number of Japanese mobile handset shipments in 2002 numbered 405 million units, a 20.2-percent decrease from a year ago, according to statistics compiled by Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEIDA). It was the second consecutive decline of the handset shipment number. In 2001, the number declined with a smaller margin of 1.8 percent.
