BEIJING-Samsung received the Chinese government’s approval to directly sell its handsets on the domestic market, bypassing import agents. Market leaders Motorola and Nokia already sell directly.
Samsung expects China to have generated US$6.4 billion in revenue in 2002, compared with Motorola’s US$5.7 billion. Apart from handsets, the figures include semiconductors and other information technology (IT) products.
Motorola’s sales in China increased 15 percent last year.
