WASHINGTON-By combining its rugged mobile computing applications with offerings from other providers, Itronix Corp. of Spokane, Wash., said on Wednesday that it will be supplying equipment to the U.S. military and Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Itronix and Trident Systems Inc. will receive $8 million to jointly develop a Dismounted Situational Awareness System for battlefield intelligence for the military. The system will combine Itronix’s wireless rugged computing solutions and Trident’s real-time battlefield situational awareness software technology.
The system was set to be demonstrated during a visit by Rep. George Nethercutt (R-Wash.) scheduled for Wednesday.
“Itronix is dedicated to equipping our nation with the most advanced wireless, rugged mobile computing systems that allow enterprises and government entities to securely and reliably extend the network to their mobile work force,” said Itronix President Tom Turner. “The U.S. government is a key customer segment for Itronix, and we are committed to working closely with government entities at the federal, state and local levels to implement the most advanced wireless, rugged mobile computing systems.”
In addition to the Department of Defense contract, it also has relationships with the FBI, said Itronix.
Sears said it has agreed to purchase 10,000 Intronix GoBook semi-rugged laptops to be combined with Wireless Matrix Corp.’s Mobile Base Station and Wide Area Wireless communications solution.
The system will be used by in-home technicians to diagnose problems and check on equipment availability.
“Itronix and Wireless Matrix were able to meet both the unique business needs of Sears and the rugged, wireless requirements of the in-home product repair service technicians,” said Mark Good, Sears executive vice president and general manager of product repair services.
Rollout of the new equipment is expected early next year.
Terms of the deal with Sears were not disclosed.
