Lucent to build cdma2000 networks in India

MURRAY HILL, N.J. -Lucent Technologies Inc. said it has signed separate contracts with two Indian operators, Reliance Infocom and Tata Teleservices, to deploy nationwide cdma2000 wireless networks. Lucent did not release the value of the contracts.

“This new cdma2000 network will enable Reliance to offer its subscribers advanced wireless data services such as e-mail, including e-mails with large attachments such as photographs, high-speed connections to corporate intranets and streaming video and next-generation data services,” said Lucent. The manufacturer signed a contract valued at more than $400 million with China Unicom earlier in the week.
