SAN DIEGO-Novatel Wireless Inc. will use Qualcomm Inc.’s MSM6200 Mobile Station Modem chipset and system software to develop its Merlin family of third-generation wireless PC card modems.
Novatel is developing the 3G card modems, which are based on UMTS networks and designed for European and North American markets, with Lucent Technologies. “We found the Qulacomm solution to have a high degree of integration and, combined with its small footprint and low power consumption, believe it will provide the best development platform for low-cost, high-capacity wireless PC card modems,” said Ambrose Tam, president and chief technology officer for Novatel.
