PARIS—Alcatel said it posted a first-quarter net loss of $746 million compared with a net profit of $187 million for the same period last year.
It recorded an operating loss of $307.9 million, down from $379 million in the previous quarter.
“The industry’s sales level remains low, and up to now we haven’t seen any meaningful external signs of a rebound,” said chief executive Serge Tchuruk. “In fact, we have seen a slowing of activity in Europe, and we can discern no improvement in the Americas.”
