BEDMINSTER, N.J.—Verizon Wireless acquired the business assets of CDMA operator Alabama Wireless Inc., expanding the carrier’s footprint throughout a seven-county area stretching from Birmingham to Huntsville and Florence in northern Alabama. Alabama Wireless’ operations, marketed under the Cellular One brand name, cover 360,000 potential customers.
While Verizon Wireless did not release financial information for the transaction, the carrier said it acquired cell sites and a switching center located in Decatur, Ala., as well as three retail stores. Verizon Wireless said it expected 24 Alabama Wireless employees to join the company.
