LONDON—Vodafone Group signed a global agreement with Ericsson to supply multimedia messaging software, which Vodafone plans to use to introduce its Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) later this year.
Vodafone said the service will allow customers to compose, send and receive messages using all forms of media, including text, pictures, audio and video clips. The carrier plans to initially roll out MMS in Europe through its operating companies.
“Vodafone believes the greater functionality of MMS will be the starting point of a broader customer experience, which will pave the way for 3G usage,” said Thomas Geitner, chief executive of global products and services for Vodafone.
