Re-auction winners meet to get money back as Verizon drops out of settlement

WASHINGTON—The re-auction winners of spectrum belonging to bankrupt NextWave Telecom Inc. and Urban Comm-North Carolina Inc. met with staff of the Federal Communications Commission today to discuss whether and/or when the agency will return $3.1 billion in deposits made last February.

The meeting came in the wake of Verizon Wireless Inc.’s withdrawal from negotiations to settle NextWave’s bankruptcy.

Senior Verizon Wireless officials earlier this week told the FCC it was dropping out of any settlement negotiations regarding NextWave’s C- and F- block licenses.
