Sun to slash 4,000 positions

NEW YORK—Sun Microsystems said it would cut 4,000 jobs as it warned of a wider-than-expected first-quarter loss owing to a tightening economy.

“Things were tough with the economy before, but now we are facing increasing uncertainties both in the U.S. and globally,” said chief executive Scott McNealy in a statement.
