TechFaith expanding motion gaming mobile phone shipments into Latin America

TechFaith | March 31, 2011 | Press Release

BEIJING, March 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — China TechFaith Wireless Communication Technology Limited (Nasdaq: CNTF) (“TechFaith” or the “Company”) today announced it will expand shipments of its proprietary motion gaming mobile phone into Latin America through a relationship with a leading U.S distributor.  TechFaith’s proprietary GSM motion gaming mobile phone features includes dual SIM card capabilities, MP3/MP4, and FM/AM radio, while also allowing consumers to use the mobile phone as a fully functional, wireless motion game controller through a standard computer Bluetooth connection.  The first shipments will be to operators in Columbia, Guatemala and Nicaragua by May.

Mr. Deyou Dong, Chief Operating Officer of TechFaith in charge of the mobile phone business, said, “This is an exciting development for us for several reasons. First, the market expansion will help us in our efforts to develop our brand globally by leveraging our proven design, software, technology and growing base of motion gaming intellectual property rights.  Second, the distributor we are working with is expanding our relationship beyond the initial countries of Columbia, Guatemala and Nicaragua.  Third, our distributor is developing its own gaming platform in conjunction with wireless network operators in the region. It sees TechFaith’s motion mobile gaming phone, and planned future TechFaith gaming devices, as being integral to driving popularity and success of the broader gaming network.  When adding everything together, this is clearly a highly strategic relationship that has the potential to reach very meaningful order size over the next few years.”
