PARIS—French vendor Alcatel has announced it will cut over 3,000 jobs in its undersea network cable and fiber-optic units in reaction to the current economic downturn.

The company, which said earlier this year it planned to cut 16,000 jobs, said 2,151 of the latest cut will affect undersea network business, while 887 will affect fiber-optics.
