Eike Batista, the world’s eighth richest man, expressed his desire last November for Apple to build a plant in Brazil, in part so Brazilians wouldn’t have to pay such high taxes on iPhones and iPads.
Now Brazilian news site RedeBomdia is reporting that Foxconn, the company that builds Apple products in China, is looking into expanding its factory north of Sao Paulo in order to build products for Apple. Foxconn already assembles products for Sony and HP at its factory in JundiaÃ, 37 miles (60 km) north of Sao Paulo. That’s where it would add a line to build Apple products, if all goes well.
Neither Foxconn nor Apple commented on the potential expansion to RedeBomdia. Circuits Assembly also reported the Foxconn rumor on Saturday, citing Redebomdia as its source.
